Mary Ann grew up in rural Minnesota,
wandering the woods and streams of her parents' farm. Some of her
earliest memories are of drawing May flowers, violets and irises that
grew wild along the creeks. She learned to love the beauty of the
land in all of its seasons and changes of mood.
Working as a full time artist in her
studio in Covina, California, fulfils a life-long dream. Following in
the footsteps of the California impressionists, Mary Ann captures the
subtle colors, the moods and light changes of early morning or the
last light of evening; the burnished look of hot, bright days, the
golden sunsets of winter. She paints the play of light and shadow on
her subjects, capturing the mood, the dramatic moment. Cloud-streaked
sunsets, misty mornings, or the soft light of spring mornings are all
subjects for her work. Mary Ann is an avid gardener, expressing her
love of nature with a continuous display of changing color.
Mary Ann has participated in a variety of
art shows, many of them juried. She has won many awards for First
Place, Painting of the Year, and Best of Show.
She has won the Don Miles Award for Best Landscape in Any
Medium in the San Gabriel Fine Arts Show in 1998, '99, 2001, '02,
'03 and '04. Her work has been accepted for exhibit in the 2001,
2003,, and 2005 spring show of Oil Painters of America, and the 2001,
2002, and 2003 shows of Women Artists of America. Mary Ann is a
member of Oil Painters of America and Women Artists of the West, and
is represented by several galleries throughout California and
Minnesota.
